Chapter 1. Obtaining A DECstation Account

This on-line manual for creating a home page assumes that the user is familiar with Mosaic or Netscape. If you are not at all familiar with either of these, learn how to get around in Mosaic or Netscape before venturing into this manual.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Mosaic. To get started, you'll need a DECstation account. If you don't have an account click HERE for an on-line application.

Another place you'll want to check out is Publishing your own Web Documents,this will tell you how to set your directories and also give information that can be applied to the creation of a home page.

Since this is all relatively new to the user, I'll be lacing the manual with places to go for additional information. The more info you have about the Web, the better you will become at using and communicating on the WorldWideWeb.

Here is a glossary of terms that you will need to understand before you get underway in the internet.

HTML This stands for hyper text markup language. This is the standard coding for documents on the Web.
WWW This is the World Wide Web. This is just one of the clients on the internet. Other clients include Netscape, and Cello.

REMEMBER:Whan you use one of the hyperlinks to a place out of this manual, the only way to get back quickly is to use the BACK button on the Mosaic window.
