The pull down menu has a lot of features to do an initial edit of the file. You will do the final editing on Photoshop, but you can control many basic functions to get a good quality clean image to scan to photoshop.
I'll explain the control panel to you. First there is type:. This should be set to millions of colors. This way the scanner will recognize all of the colors in the document. Path: should be set to screen. This makes it easy for you to see the scanned image. Brightness and contrast work just like the controls of a television. Scaling is how large or small the image will appear in the final scanned file.
CAUTION I would highly advise you NOT to mess with Scaling until you have a real good understanding of what happens when you increase the size of images. There is a finite amount of memory that we have to live with on the Mac. Each time you increase the size of a file the Size of the file increases. It is not hard to run out of space to store the image. It is for this reason that you should excerise extreme caution when using the Scaling command.
Size will tell you the current size of the file that you are editing.
Preview will be done automatically after you select Twain Acquire in the Photoshop menu. By moving the flashing outline, you can highlight the specific area that you want to 'zoom' on the page. After you have the lines to where you want them, click on Zoom.
Zoom takes the area that you have highlighted with flashing lines and rescans the image. You can still do editing on the file after using the zoom button.
Final is the to use when you want to scan the FINAL image. When you are ready to scan the final image to either floppy disk or temporary hard drive, click on the Final button.
