Chapter 8.

Creating JPEG Files

We all love pictures, let's put one in your home page. First, get some photos that you want in your home page. Next go to Stright 219 and you will see the scanner located on the desk. If it is not already on, the switch is located on the right side. Then you will need to be at the first Mac on the window side of the lab nearest the scanner. Again, if the Mac isn't on, turn it on. If the applications menu doesn'y show up, double click on the applications box at the top right of the screen.

Double click on Adobe Photoshop LE on the applications menu. Then, double click on Adobe Photoshop 2.5.1. Follow the list below and you will have a file ready to FTP(File Transfer Protocol) over to your DEC account.

Once you have successfully scaned the image to the desired directory on the Mac, you can experiment with Photoshop to edit the picture. Effects that can be done vary from highlighting the picture to solarization. You remember that don't you? MTV videos way back in the eighties used this technique. The point is to experiment and find out what you like. Since all these fun techniques are done on a Mac, It is fairly easy to fix any mistakes that you will make. Just go to the Edit word at the top border of the screen and drag the mouse down to undo function.

Now, let's go move those JPEGS over to your DEC account, in your public_html directory, of course.
