QUESTIONS TO ASK
ON A CAMPUS VISIT
The following is a list of questions you may want to ask when you visit a university/college that
you are considering attending:
Academic
- What is the average class size?
- Are most classes taught by professors or graduate students?
- Do students meet the faculty outside class for tutoring or social activities?
- Are tutoring and/or academic support services easily available?
- What courses are required for all students?
- Are on-campus part-time work-study jobs available so you can get experience in your field
of interest?
- What percent of students graduate? What percent of Latinos graduate?
- What percent of pre-law or pre-med students are admitted to law school or medical
school?
- What percent of graduating students get jobs through the school placement services?
Social
- What is the ethnic/racial mix of the student population? How many Latino students are
there?
- Are there clubs or organizations where you can meet other students and faculty with your
interests?
- Is there a Latino student organization on campus?
- Do most students live on campus?
- Is housing space guaranteed for four years?
- Can I choose my roommate?
- What facilities are available for sports and recreation for men and women?
- What do students do on weekends?
Admissions
- What are the admissions policies?
- Are additional applications needed for special programs (e.g., honors, nursing, business,
etc.)
- What are the most competitive majors? How difficult is it to transfer into those majors?
- What is the recommended and latest dates that the SAT should be taken?
- Is the ACT accepted?
Money
- What is your tuition cost?
- Are there costs beside tuition, such as fees, books, room and board, that I should be
prepared to pay? If so, what are they?
- Are special applications required for financial aid?
- Are special scholarships available in my field of interest? If so, how and when must I
apply?
- Are there scholarships for minority students? For Latino students? If so, how do I apply?
- How long does it take to hear about notification of acceptance and notification of financial
aid?
