A Mathematical Genealogy

Many people enjoy looking into their family's heritage. Less common is tracing of academic genealogy, that is, tracing the Ph.D advisor of a Ph.D. advisor . . . .

Some have done this in the past for fun, but it is frequently becoming a source of history research. In this talk we will have some fun dropping names and telling stories, but we will also catch of glimpse of the growth of the American mathematical community from its infancy to the present.

This talk will be accessible to anyone.
