The Mathematics Education Reform Movement: What does it mean for Teacher Preparation?

What exactly is the mathematics reform movement and how does it effect present and future teachers of mathematics? H. Wu addresses this concern in the American Mathematical Monthly (Dec. 1997) and what can and should be done. Jeremy Kilpatrick also offers a response to WuUs concerns about confronting reform in school mathematics. Both pieces will be used as a point of discussion in questioning how colleges and universities can better prepare pre- and inservice teachers of mathematics as well as build stronger ties to the K-12 schools.
