Building 3D Models for the Web Creating your first VRML file

This will only work on the PowerMacs. If you have a PowerMac without a network connection, then ask me to give you spheres.wrl on a floppy disk and then skip to Step 6.

Retrieve the VRML file

1. From the Apple menu, launch Netscape Communicator
2. From the IUP Mathematics Department main page, go to

   Course Information
   LS 499
   Admin
   Daily Course Supplements
   Simple Example: spheres.wrl

3. Under Communicator's File menu, select Save As
4. Click on the Desktop button
5. Click on the Save button

Modify the VRML file

6. From the Apple menu, launch Word
7. Under Word's File menu, select Open
8. Click on the Desktop button
9. Double-click on spheres.wrl
10. Modify the VRML file to create your first file
11. Under Word's File menu, select Save As
12. Under Save File As Type, select Text Only
13. Change the name to first.wrl
14. Click on the Desktop button
15. Click on Save

View the Changes

15. Under Netscape Communicator's File menu, select Open, and then select Open Page in Navigator
16. Click on the Desktop button
17. Double-click on first.wrl

Making Additional Changes

18. To make additional changes to first.wrl,
    1. Make the modifications in Word
    2. Under Word's File menu, select Save
    3. Click on Netscape Communicator's Reload button
