Greek Village

The Greek Village, when completed, will house fraternity and sorority members on the newly developed South Campus Extension. The site, located near the Robertshaw building, can accommodate approximately 15 houses. Between 32 and 64 people will share each house. The fraternity and sorority houses will feature double occupancy bedrooms; every two rooms will share a bathroom. At the end of each floor, there will be a community space that can serve as a living room, kitchen, study room or computer room--whatever each group of students would like.

The interior design of each house will be determined by each fraternity and sorority individually, but of course each house must meet all building codes. The exterior of the house must be jointly designed by the University and Greek organizations.

The phasing for this project begins with the primary housing construction during the years 2001-2006. Throughout these five years, the initial construction for the houses and the main roadway through the site will take place. This phase also includes necessary wetland improvements, wetland migration, and initial site landscaping. Phase 2 will include secondary housing construction; this will occur after the primary housing is completed, occupied and tested. This phase could include an additional six houses and additional access routes to the site, depending on student demand. Phase 3 is the tertiary housing construction, the construction of the third and final group of housing units, and a second access road connecting to the Greek Village.

The construction of a Community Center would occur during the final phase of the project along with any ancillary facilities required because of student demand or unforeseen needs.
