March 31 Progress Report

Goal: Elevation grid completed
-
Because of scheduling problems, we did not meet with Ron Wilson of the
Spatial Sciences Research Center soon enough; therefore, we were unable
to meet our goal of having the elevation grid completed by March 31. Ron
Wilson has been very helpful in investigating the conversion of DEM files
to VRML, and group members met with him yesterday. We hope to have an elevation
grid completed by our April 14 progress report.

Goal: Simple but accurate models of buildings completed.
-
We discovered that IUP does NOT have the South Campus plans in CAD format.
Bob Marx will try to contact the engineering firm to see if they will provide
the files to us. The engineering firm has weekly Monday morning meetings
and was to discuss our request yesterday, but no information has yet been
received from Mr. Marx. We have requested and received some blueprints
of the South Campus and the President's house to work from. Because most
buildings on the South Campus plan are in concept stages only, no real
dimensions exist for most of the structures. Exceptions include the President's
house and the Continuing Education building.

Goal: Begin interior of President's residence
-
Research is being done into the best way to model the interior of rooms.
The blueprints were received yesterday. Modeling of the interior should
be well underway by April 14.

Goal: HTML web pages completed except for final graphics
-
(This goal was moved up from April 14 as we were unable to meet the goal
of creating the elevation grid.) We have asked Bob Marx to review the text
for the website. He has provided us with some changes which have been made,
and he will ask those involved with the development plan to review them
for accuracy as well. We have also edited the pages for grammar and content.

AutoCad to VRML programs If Ron
Wilson needs to convert the DEM files to CAD before translating them into
VRML, we have provided the following information to him gathered from the
WWW.
