Project Proposal and Summary

Return to Main...
We propose to map out in detail the landscape for the South Campus, beginning approximately 400 meters north-west of the current Robert Shaw parking area, and continuing to the end of South Campus, at Indian Springs Road.  Such a mapping will take the form of an elevation grid, with each square of this grid being 1000 meters to a side, with some attention to specific landscape features such as ponds and sports fields.

Upon this elevation grid, we will create very rough models for each of the 41 buildings; in most cases these models will be made with very little detail--a basic shape with appropriate dimensions, covered with a brick (or other appropriate) texture maps.

We will then add detail to selected buildings, as time allows.  Specific attention will be paid to the Greek Village and President's residence, as these are areas of special interest to both the public and the administration.

Pursuing the project in this fashion offers a simple, yet accurate, model of South Campus in a relatively short period of time.  Just as importantly, however, it presents a foundation upon which future teams can build, mapping out South Campus with greater accuracy and detail.

Additionally, the South Campus team will create an associated web site which will provide additional information about South Campus, including two-dimensional maps, time lines, and further textual information about the project.
