Course Title:		Preparation for Actuarial Examinations

Prerequisites:		Calculus sequence and MA 171

			by Cox & Broverman

Catalog Description:
The course provides an introduction to the actuarial profession and helps the student prepare for the first actuarial examinations. The examination preparation consists of studying sample actuarial examinations and related material. The student is required to take the actuarial examination. The student should be aware that for most students considerable study beyond the requirements of this 1 credit course will be required inorder to pass the actuarial examinations.
Course Outline/Time Schedule:

I.	Course Objectives
	A.	introduce students to the actuarial profession
	B.	help students to prepare for the first actuarial exam

II.	Class Meetings
	A.	The class will meet once a week.  Students are given sample problems from past actuarial examinations to study outside of class.  The solution of these problems and related material are presented and discussed in class.  The only materials used for the course are sample actuarial examinations.

III.	Methodology and Procedure
	A.	Students study sample examinaiton problems outside of class.  The solutions are then presented and discussed in class

IV.	Evaluation
	A.	Students will be graded on their presentations of problem solutions and their class participation.

V.	Other Course Requirements
	A.	Students are required to take the National Actuarial Examination (score does not effect class grade).
