MATH 281 Midterm Advice

Covers Sections 01-10

Paper part

  1. Without computer
  2. Mathematics
    1. Parametric curves
    2. Parametric surfaces (I will give you the conversion equations for spherical to Cartesian coordinates.)
    3. Using 2x2 matrices as geometric transformations (expansions and reflections only. Nothing on rotations or eigenvalues)
    4. TNB system (You need to know what they are and how we used them in graphing. You don't need to know the formulas, though.)
  3. Mathematica
    1. Defining and using functions
    2. Solve, NSolve, FindRoot
    3. Plot, Plot3D, ParametricPlot, ParametricPlot3D
    4. Table

You will have to turn in the paper part of your exam before logging in to your computer.

Computer part

  1. With Mathematica, with all of our class notebooks, with all of your assignments, with all of your paper notes, but without any Web sites, other than our class Web site.
  2. This part of the exam will be based on the concepts that you needed to do the homework problems. Because of the time constraint, though, you should be well versed in these problems before the exam. You won't have time to look up everything.
